We’re Hiring – Algal Biologist – Now closed

Join our team as an Algal Biologist! 

Industrial Plankton’s new Algal Biologist will support the Chief Science Officer on algae photobioreactor (PBRs) optimization and use. 

You will ensure proper operation and maintenance of in-house and customer PBRs. In addition, you will work with the production team to build, operate and support Industrial Plankton’s PBRs globally. 

The Biologist will also be expected to assist with the research and development in optimizations of the current technologies and future projects from a biological perspective.

We design, manufacture, and support high-tech bioreactors that allow our customers worldwide to easily grow live algae on-site. Our equipment is in 27 countries and counting!  We are located in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.

Primary duties:
  • Handle customer inquiries on algae cultivation
  • Creating SOPs for operating PBRs
  • Troubleshooting and maintenance of PBRs
  • General algae husbandry (i.e., culture/library maintenance) 
  • Operating in-house PBRs
  • Running growth trial benchmarking PBRs
  • Collaborating with technicians to operate PBRs.
  • Training PBR use abroad
  • Record maintenance of PBR and customers
  • Additional duties as assigned
Requirements and Capabilities
  • College diploma or B.Sc. in a related field (Marine Science, Agriculture, Biology, Aquaculture)
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask efficiently 
  • Detail oriented
  • Great organization and time management skills
  • Ability to work in a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Fluent in English (Ability to read, comprehend, and follow verbal directions precisely) 
  • Ability to communicate directions to others efficiently and respectfully
  • Enjoyment of traveling
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving experience
  • Able to lift 50lbs and use a ladder safely
Desirable but not required
  • Interest and/or experience in aquaculture or algal biotechnology
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, PVC, and power tools
  • Proofreading experience
  • Graphic design (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • Photography & editing skills

  • International travel is required intermittently
