About the Company

Industrial Plankton is a growing 15 person biotech company that loves to build and innovate. We design, manufacture, deliver and support high-tech, stand alone bioreactors that allow our worldwide customers to grow their own live plankton feed. We are located in Victoria near Uptown Mall, just steps away from the Galloping Goose trail.

About the Job

Working out of the company’s facility in Victoria, BC the Materials Manager executes, continuously improves and will eventually lead our procurement, inventory management and physical distribution processes. Supporting two product lines with a combined 600+ SKUs and hundreds of subassemblies and custom-made components, you manage our entire materials flow, from component ordering from vendors, to end-product delivery to customers. Using a host of collaborative digital tools as well as our internally developed, Google-sheet based Materials Tracking System, you’ll team up with engineering and production to ensure Industrial Plankton always has the optimal mix and quantity of parts and components, competitively sourced and adequately insured, to efficiently build and timely deliver our bioreactors.

Requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets

Valuable assets
  • Undergraduate Degree in Science, Engineering or Business Administration; or similar technical or vocational education.
  • Past inventory management experience in a manufacturing environment
Detailed Responsibilities
  • Ordering and/or purchasing all parts and components, including custom-made
  • Engaging and building strong relationships with suppliers and shipping partners
  • Accurately and continuously updating our Material Tracking System, in particular parts costs, shipping costs and supplier lead times; while continuously improving on the system so as to eventually own it
  • Monthly inventory counts, including variance and shrinkage/obsolescence management.
  • Manage, in close coordination with our production and support teams, incoming and outgoing domestic and international shipments, optimizing their cost, and keeping knowledgeable on international shipping, brokerage and customs requirements
  • Engage directly with insurance brokers to obtain and maintain optimal coverage
  • Other related duties as assigned
